University Park couple aims to grow free clinic Christ’s Family Clinic right here in our own back yard
Katrina and Steven Bradford are on a mission. They want to spread the word about a clinic they have been involved with since 2003. Since inception, Christ’s Family Clinic has been operating from the back of Preston Road Church of Christ. It offers free or low cost services to those in need. The clinic is staffed with doctors who volunteer their time. The Bradfords want to ensure that potential volunteers and patients in the community are aware of the clinic.
“We have a great little gem right here in the Park Cities. Our three-tiered approach offers primary care, preventative care and tertiary care. You won’t see that in most faith-based health ministries,” remarked Steven Bradford, chairman of the board for Christ’s Family Clinic. Steven’s wife, Dr. Katrina Bradford is the volunteer medical director and also sees patients in the clinic. “In 2012 alone we saw 197 unduplicated patients and had over 1,100 clinic visits. That was all handled with 1,200 donated volunteer hours,” noted Dr. Katrina Bradford. “The need is great and we can do so much more.”
Dr. Katrina Bradford has been a family physician for 15 years. She graduated magna cum laude from Harvard University then completed her medical degree and family medicine residency training at UCLA. She is currently employed with Baylor Family Health Center Richardson. Since 2004 she has served as the medical director of Christ’s Family Clinic. The Bradford’s have lived in the Park Cities since 2001 and have two sons who attend Hyer Elementary School. They both feel the clinic is important because it is a pure example of Christian minded men and women coming together to help those in need.
The clinic has offered the following services: internal & family medicine, geriatrics, ophthalmology, gynecology, nephrology, surgical consultation and minor office procedures, pediatric acute care, and comprehensive primary health care for adults. The clinic provides laboratory services, free samples of prescription medications, and access to chronic medications at low or no cost. In 2012 patient care clinics were held for 12-25 hours a week and the office was open Monday-Thursday 8-5 for administrative, laboratory and medication services.
About Christ Family Clinic
Christ’s Family Ministries was established at Preston Road Church of Christ to provide primary health care services to the marginalized population working in the Park Cities’ area. A full time office coordinator runs the day-to-day operations of the clinic as well as serving as an enrollment coordinator for referrals for ancillary services and specialty care.
Christ’s Family Clinic opened in December 2003 with 2 volunteer physicians. Since then, the clinic has had 14 volunteer physicians in primary and specialty care, an employed part time primary care physician, one physician assistant, 15 volunteer nurses or medical assistants and one full time LVN who also served as office administrator, 3 volunteer physical therapists, one chiropractor and dozens of administrative volunteers. The clinic serves families from the entire Dallas area and provides healthcare for members of New Friends New Life (a non-profit organization that helps women find a healthy productive life outside the adult entertainment industry).
